Consultation has concluded. The IDP was adopted.

The County of Grande Prairie, in partnership with the Town of Sexsmith has engaged ISL Engineering and Land Services Ltd. to prepare an Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) between the two municipalities.

The Province of Alberta, as part of the updated Municipal Government Act, now requires all municipalities that share a boundary to prepare an IDP by April 2021. This plan is intended to address future growth opportunities and other development-related matters of joint interest between the municipalities.

The proposed IDP identifies a 50 year development strategy between the County and Sexsmith. It is a collaborative plan that is intended to address the long-term growth and development of lands that are the joint interest to the municipalities, in a coordinated fashion, and to promote regional partnerships. The plan covers land use, transportation, servicing, future growth, economic development, intermunicipal programs, and the funding of future growth.
