County of Grande Prairie and Town of Wembley IDP

The County of Grande Prairie, in partnership with the Town of Wembley is preparing an Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) between the two municipalities. The project began in 2018, was put on hold in 2019 to focus on the completion of other plans, and then resumed in 2022.

Project Update, April 2024: County of Grande Prairie and Town of Wembley IDP Project on Hold

The County of Grande Prairie and the Town Wembley are temporarily suspending the IDP project until additional public consultation can be planned.

Based on the feedback received from residents to this point, the two municipalities felt that more public consultation and design work is required to develop a plan that works for both the Town and County.

The municipalities will now make an application to the Province of Alberta for additional funding to support the additional public consultation.

An IDP is a long-term and strategic plan between two or more municipalities. The IDP’s purpose is to provide a coordinated and collaborative framework respecting land use, servicing, and transportation on lands adjacent to the boundaries of the respective municipalities.
