Bylaw #3255 - Municipal Development Plan is Adopted

The County of Grande Prairie has officially adopted its new Municipal Development Plan (MDP) through Bylaw #3255 at a Special Council Meeting held today. This follows the Public Hearing on March 9, 2026.
The updated plan reflects extensive public feedback between 2023 and 2025 and is part of the overarching Plan Your County project.
As the County’s primary long-range planning document, the MDP sets the overall vision for growth and development. It guides future land use decisions and informs other key planning tools, including the Land Use Bylaw (LUB) and Area Structure Plans (ASPs).
The updated plan reflects the County’s diverse communities, from rural areas to hamlets, and focuses on balancing growth with sustainability. It identifies where development should occur, where infrastructure can be used efficiently, and which areas should be protected. The MDP is designed to support the County’s needs over the next 50 years.
Public engagement included 27 in-person and two virtual information sessions, five school visits, a technical workshop, and online feedback opportunities.
With the adoption of Bylaw #3255, the new MDP replaces the previous plan and will guide planning decisions across the County moving forward.
